TikTok Surpasses One Billion Installs on the App Store and Google Play

TikTok, the social video app from Beijing's ByteDance, has reached a major milestone by crossing one billion worldwide installs on the App Store and Google Play (excluding Android installs in China). Approximately 663 million of these installs occurred in 2018. Comparatively, Facebook had 711 million installs and Instagram 444 million last year.

In January 2019, TikTok was the third most downloaded app globally across both stores and the number one non-game app in the United States. Its new users for January reached 71.3 million worldwide, a 161 percent increase from January 2018. India accounts for 25% of all downloads (250 million), and 43% of new users in January came from India, up from 9.5% the previous year.

U.S. share of new users grew from 5.6% to 9%, with total U.S. installs exceeding 96 million.
